Acupuncture

Most people who have heard about acupuncture are very curious to know how it works.

We must start with the concept of Qi (pronounced chee). Sometimes it is also spelled Chi. Qi is our vital energy that keeps us healthy and able to fight off  illness. It keeps us warm and helps our bodies function in numerous ways. Qi is distributed throughout the body in channels called meridians.

These meridians are like rivers that flow throughout our bodies from our organs to our skin surface, from our heads to our toes and fingers. Qi needs to go everywhere in our bodies to carry its life giving functions and nourishment to all parts of our bodies.

Acupuncture works by ensuring that Qi is moving properly through the meridians to maintain or improve health. When we are sick or in pain, it is because the qi is stuck or insufficient and not getting where it needs to go to bring nourishment. Acupuncture needles are then placed in specific points along the meridians to direct the qi flow and return our bodies to normal function, and returning us to health.
