Is what you’re eating helping or hurting your fertility?

What you put in your mouth can directly affect how fertile you are.

There are lots of opinions as to the best way to eat to help fertility. Some feel eating animal protein is better, some think eating a more plant based diet is better. Ultimately you have to decide what works best for you, perhaps with the help of a professional.

That said here are a few guidelines to provide you the best nutrition to optimize your fertility.

  1. Eat clean. If possible eat organic or pesticide free foods.
  2. If you eat animal protein make sure it has no added hormones or antibiotics. The best is from free range animals. This provides the best nutrition.
  3. Eat a full range of fruits and vegetables. Keep variety in your diet to receive all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
  4. Eat whole foods only. No refined carbs, white flour products.
  5. Cook your own food. You will know what you are getting in your food. There are plenty of fast and easy recipes on the internet.
  6. Eat good fats. Olive oil, grass fed hormone free butter, ghee,  coconut oil. Yes, some saturated fat is good for you. Just don’t over do.
  7. Eat nuts, especially walnuts and almonds.
  8. If you are a vegan or vegetarian make sure you are eating the full range of essential amino acids. These proteins are the building blocks of your body. If you are vegan, you will need to be especially diligent and careful here.
  9. If you eat dairy make sure it is full fat dairy. Forget nonfat and low fat.
